Dr. Gary J. Grogan

Senior Pastor

Dr. Gary J. Grogan has been the Senior Pastor at Chesnee First Baptist Church since 2002. He

and his wife Pam enjoy hosting and entertaining in their home. Gary and Pam have been

married for more than 35 years. They have two children and one grandchild. Gary enjoys loving

on his new grandbaby, cooking/grilling, watching football, and riding his Harley. He is in his

34 th year of serving the local church in full-time ministry; he is in his 29 th year of pastoral

ministry.

Gary believes the most effective way to reach people with the love of Jesus and the Good

News of the Gospel is through building relationships. People need to know you well enough to

be comfortable with you before they will listen to you. Although he loves to preach, Gary is

convinced the best way to communicate with people is through personal interaction.

In Matthew 22:37-39 Jesus responds to being asked what He thought was the greatest

commandment by saying, “37 ‘…Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your

soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second

is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’” (NIV). The two most important things a follower of

Jesus can do, according to Jesus, is (1) Love God with everything you are, and (2) Love your

neighbor in the same way and to the same degree as you love yourself. Jesus also said, in John

15:13, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends” (NIV). Jesus

put others before Himself and the best way we can love others is to do the same.
